Highlights of the 389th Meeting of Classis Hudson:
Classis Hudson met on March 7-8, 2011 at the Bridgeway Community Church. Part of this meeting was held jointly with delegates from Classis Hackensack.
The meeting began with a time of worship and prayer led by the praise team from Bridgeway Church. Delegates were introduced to the work of various ministries in our area and encouraged to make use of resources available through the Regional Home Missions Team.
Classis heard a presentation on the Safe Church Ministry of the CRC, and nominated two individuals to represent it on a regional safe church team.
Initial approval was granted for two new ministries: a campus ministry at Stony Brook University on Long Island, currently overseen by East-West CRC of Flushing, NY; and a newly affiliating congregation, Evergreen Church of Ridgefield Park, NJ. The hope is that these two ministries will be recognized as independent members of classis at a future meeting.
Rev. Howard Vugteveen of New Life Ministries CRC will be retiring effective May 31, 2011. Classis celebrates his many years of faithful service to Christ and to the church.
Mrs. Linda Hefty was appointed as the new classis treasurer.
Rev. Ken Bieber was appointed to serve as the chair of the Student Fund Committee, and Rev. Hong Suk Kim was appointed to serve along with him on this committee.
Classis agreed to meet a third time each year, with the next meeting to occur on May 12. We will be attempting to move our joint meeting with Classis Hackensack to the fall, beginning in 2012.
Love Korean CRC was approved as a organized congregation in our classis.
An overture urging Synod not to adopt the proposed replacement for the Form of Subscription was adopted.
Elders Bernie Joustra (Cedar Hill) and Ern Wiegers (Midland Park), as well as Pastors Paul Ingeneri (Flanders) and Kook Sung Kim (Tree of Life) were delegated to represent Classis Hudson at Synod 2011.
Rev. Hong Suk Kim (Staten Island) led in closing devotions from Daniel 6:10, urging delegates to remain faithful in the work that God has called our churches to, “just as we have done before.” Rev. Kim closed with prayer.
